One odd thing that I noticed about stories we share about our furry companions is the preponderance of tearjerkers versus stories that make you chuckle or stories focusing on the joy or humor to be found in having furry family. I had decided this sort of thing was not at all what I wanted to do, but it just occurred to me that heartwarming doesn't necessarily mean tearjerking and that none of the stories I tell about my posse are sad. It's like writing a book about children and focusing on the heartbreaks. There's a place for these stories, but there is also a place for laughter and I see no sense in going out looking for reasons to cry or in seeking to give other people yet another reason to cry.
Cats accumulate. That is one of the first rules of life. That said, Heaven must be a place where there is always a kitten in the house and you never wake up with 42 cats. I've taken in and fostered strays all my life - but my daughter's firm opinion is that once they get in, they stay in. We stay within zoning regulations and local law, but we do have a menagerie - four cats, a rabbit who chases the cats, a Silky Terrier who mistakenly thinks she is the boss and a goofy white mongrel who knows he’s not boss. These are their stories.
