The Tao Te Ching opens with the insight that the Tao that can be known is not the Tao. Cats are like the Tao in this way. I surmise that the cat who can be known is not a cat.
Cats also express the Taoist idea of effortless effort. They are pure grace and beauty and they manage to express this whether awake or asleep. My cats also have a knack for expressing the yin and yang of life in their reposing poses.

It's funny how cats are the whole package. They are the personification of elegance--and then they act like slapstick comedians, and crack you up with their shenanigans...aw, kee-kats...
ReplyDeleteThis is why Greta and I miss kitty luvin. They are death-dealing predators who sleep 17 hours a day and manage to look graceful and haughty, when they're not snuggling or being utterly ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteTanya, Greta would probably love my big boys. Miss Rosie is alike a very unintelligent version of Chelsea and tends to smack any dog or boy cat (i.e. poor Wasabi) who gets too familiar. But my boys are loves - especially the Maine Coons.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to slapstick - you should see Sneakers and Wasabi. Wasabi's bigger and tends to slide into things and then, of course, totally act like he meant to do that all along.
